Obviously no need for VBs with that baby! Plus, no worries about condensation accumulating in the insulation even on th longest of trips, because this set up would probably provide lots of opportunity for drying everything out, without needing the sun. OTOH, backpacking with it might prove challenging for all but the strongest among us!

Just don't get too close or drop the quilt on the redhot stove/chimney...dangerous games there! But yes, the nice thing is being able to always dry stuff out.

Yep, I remember! I have a VB shirt that I love, as well as socks and gloves. All I lack is pants. I have used my breathable rain pants as a substitute. I have never understood how that can work, but people say it does, and indeed it seemed to when I tested it during my personal best of +6F inside a "sock" i.e. the top and under cover of a HHSS. Plus a frost bib. All was bone dry the next morning except for that frost bib, which was supposed to be wet. So I suppose the breathable pants, under leg insulation and TQ, actually worked as a VB. At least as a "good enough" VB, as there was no apparent condensation or moisture anywhere other than the frost bib.

I suppose I should get some "real" VB pants. Do you like those rain pants? They are not all that inexpensive.

I've noticed that WPB shell can also help a lot with condensation and is lots better than nothing if actual VB isn't available.

I like the pants but I'd get more use out of them—being able to actually hike in them—if they had some zippered side vents from thigh to calves. I'm thinking of taking them to my local seamster to modify. As it is, my legs get downright wet in a few minutes at aerobic output levels.

Seriously though it seems like a great, simple 1-piece VB. I just didn't try it on a cold enough night. I think it was 30° which is ridiculous, but I had it with me and gave it a shot. I only lasted about 45 minutes. But I look forward to trying it around 10° or so.

It's a "hot tent" but still set up for using the hammock. But it doesn't solve every issue; the stove runs out after a couple hours and you're back to sleeping in the cold. So it's not all fun and games.

I always thought a tarp the way people generally set it up for a hammock is in fact an imperfect tent, so it makes sense to expand it a little and seal it. It's cool to see you with all this brand new gear! I guess what you have to do now is get rid of the hammock and bring in a double bed and good company for the night! I also watched the kayaking video, and certainly recognized you going around in circles complaining of no good spot to camp (Just like me)
Sea kayaking is great here in the Mediterranean, and also Atlantic ocean where there are sometimes up to 36 feet of water level difference between the low and high tide, so you never get bored!
