    Hit by tree?

    Hi HF,
I don't know if its just me but when I am falling asleep in my hammock and the wind is rattling the trees overhead I can't help but wonder if I missed seeing the one snag that could topple over and hit me. They do call them widow makers for a reason. I am usually careful in my camp selection based on windfirmness but it is impossible to predict perfectly. Anyone have any close calls or otherwise?

No close calls here, but lots of folks in tents have been killed by falling trees. Just sayin'... .

Look for widowmakers and live your life.

Granny Pat, are you on line?

I look before I set up and as soon as I hit the hammock, I'm out like a light. Enjoy!

Check your hang to the best of your ability then enjoy the hang!

The only tree that ever hit me was one I was cutting down because it looked like it could be trouble. It would have probably stood another ten years if I had left it alone.

Several of us have been tied to trees when the whole tree went down. It'll shake you up! So far as I know, we are all still hanging! You might see me push on the tree before I tie to it now.
Keep movin', keep believing and enjoy the journey!

I didn't like the look of a tree during my last hike, went over and shook it and sure enough a branch came down. The branch missed me but the stinking slimy slug sitting on the branch landed on my forehead. I still think with a little effort the tree could have been pushed over. But to answer your original question, the thought of a tree falling does cross my mind at night, I just try to make sure I'm away from the dead ones.

Nice one Spaceweasel, I saw that thread with that tree just missing you. That's what made me think of this.
