Doubled up it has 8 stakes.
Play with the line length to find what works best for your pole. Think I'll stick with the 50 ft. Better to have more than I need.
I like this and will try it on my next outing, hopefully in May to Wyoming on the CDT. Yes it's a little more gear, mostly the pole, but on the bike Its space not weight. I think it will be worth it to have the expanded options on where to camp.

Thank you for the info and the pictures. I "get it" now. T

Do you have concerns regarding the REI gold poles handling the weight stresses? What lengths would you recommend?

I think the poles will be fine. I've laid in it and it felt very solid, no bending. I weight about 160. Think I'll sleep in it this weekend. I'll let you know.
I'm so use to setting up with trees, I want to practice it a few times. I'm currently thinking about wind. If I'm in it, it will be fine, but if I'm not I don't want the wind to lift the hammock or tarp off the pole. Perhaps my water bladder clipped to the top of the pole.

I think the pole adjust between about 8 and 10 ft. That's more than I need, but I'll keep them as they are until I've used it a few times. I can always shorten them later if I want to. Shorter sections would be easier to pack and stronger. I'll probably shorten them in the future.

Note that REI has two sizes of those gold collapsible pole. IF they work at all, I’m guessing you’ll want to use the larger diameter set. Also, if they are dedicated to this function, you might want to beef up the single button clip that holds them extended.
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.

Good suggestion. I’ll see if a mod can help repoint the links to the images on HF.
