VIDEO: Manistee River Trail with Shepherd Puppy part 1

    Hi guys,

Here's part one of our hike in Manistee in August. On this trip it was me, my GF, Brian, Kyle, his dog Pixel, and Stark. All our hiking stuff was packed away and scattered due to a recent move, and we got late notice for this trip. So we whipped together what we could, took way too much food, and visited the MRT for the first time.

We had planned on doing the NCT/MRT loop, but a very late start, too heavy packs, and the prospect of no water access on the NCT side pushed us to stick to the MRT. We Started at Red Bridge Access, hiked as far as we could friday night, then finished the trek up to the waterfall and halfway back down Saturday. We got back to the car Sunday afternoon. This is the first video I have ever recorded, let alone edited and uploaded to the internet.

That is a really beautiful trail, and any video from it would be good.

For your very first one you did a good job.

Hope you will share more with us in the future and hope to see you this weekend

Haha...that made us both laugh. We knew it would be a problem when we left, our packs were so heavy. When we got back, we found our base weights were around 35-40 pounds! Gotta love a challenge.

She ended up having two rainflies, and she was carrying the 3.5 lb hennessy instead of the 1.75 lb WBBB. She also carried all the dogs food, and a blue tarp and blanket for him to sleep on, since this was his first trip and he couldn't carry much weight. We ended up with twice the food we needed too.

We both had to work up to the day we left, and we found out 3 days before the trip, so we just grabbed stuff from storage and rushed out. The first night at camp we discovered all the heavy extras as we opened stuff sacks and bags.

Just goes to show how effective trip planning and the handy excel weight sheet can cut weight--in this case in half!

Hi there, Sol Invictus! I just wanted to let you know that I enjoyed your video. It looks like a very nice place to hike and hang. It looked like the dogs, with their doggy backpacks, where having a good time. Thanks for the video!

Nice video and a great trail. I love watching well trained dogs. I had a female shepherd that I had to put down a couple of years ago and she was trained as well as your dogs. Called her off a doe crossing a trail once...Truley miss her...
