Under/Over Quilt question

I'm gonna make a Mirage style underquilt.

He calls for uncoated ripstop. I have a 10x10 urethane Speer style tarp. Is there any harm in using that urethane coated material as the shell material for an under quilt?

I want to buy an SG tarp to replace my current tarp. I figure there is no need to through away that old material.

I'm not sure about the urethane, but my gut feeling is that something waterproof enough for a tarp wouldn't be breathable enough for a quilt. You could very well end up with a lot of condensation.

I used a DWR material when I made my quilt. Water resistant, but breathable. Using the coated material would be a big mistake. Your insulation will get wet.
