Tarp Ridge Line - Over or Under Tarp?

From what I've been reading here it seems as though it is suggested to place the tarp UNDER the ridgeline so that the ridgeline does not wick water and drip on you in the rain. I would prefer to have the ridgeline run under the tarp for a couple reasons (keep the tarp nice and taught along the ridge and also for running the line through the bug net). If I use Snakeskins on my ridgeline, will the line still wick water and drip or will the Snakeskins covering the ends of the line stop this from happening? Also, what if I were to tie a piece of cord to the ridgeline to act as a drip catch before the water ran further down the ridgeline?
Just wondering if anyone has experimented with this at all.

    Thanks!

Either way will be fine. It's all about what you like. There are advantages and disadvantages to both.

I used to have my ridgeline under my tarp with mesh snakeskins on....until I camped in really bad weather (alot of rain)
I had water running down the ridgeline and dripped on my hammock.

Hmmm I have the Hennessy Snakeskins so they are waterproof. I guess I can always give it a shot and hope for the best

You suspend your bugnet from your tarp ridgeline? Never seen that before. Most folks suspend it from the hammock ridgeline. You would have to really ratchet the tarp down low to the hammock to keep the bugnet close. Or you would need a really massive bugnet.

I prefer my ridgeline over my tarp so it doesn't wear on the fabric. However, I hang the ridgeline under my HG Cuben Fiber 4S tarp. I never hang anything of consequence from my tarp ridgeline. Just a thermometer.

I should preface by saying I have not used the bugnet with this set up yet. I do not use a ridgeline for my hammock so I was just assuming I would be able to use the ridgeline for the tarp with the bugnet. Hmmm you raise some good points though! I guess I could always run a line like you suggested when I plan on using the bugnet. So aside from being able to quickly adjust the location of the tarp over the hammock, is there any real need for a ridgline for the hammock at all? Would there be any issues in simply using 2 taught line hitches attached to each D ring on the middle of the tarp and then attachign those directly to the trees? The taught lines would allow me to adjust the location in a similar manner I would assume? I'm going on a trip this week so perhaps I'll just bring a bunch of options and test them out
Thanks for the ideas though guys I do appreciate it!

I guess that depends on how high you hang your tarp. The centerline of my tarps are generally just a few inches above the whipping on my hammocks. It wouldn't take a very long piece of cord to connect the two. Also, don't forget that not everybody uses a structural ridgeline on their hammocks. Less than 1/3 of my hammocks have STLs.

Course, I don't use a ridgeline on my tarps so.....
    Trust nobody!

All my hammocks have adjustable ridgelines (that I rarely adjust) made of 1.75 mm Zing-It. I like the consistent lay I get, 30 degrees no matter what distance the trees are. I can hang stuff off it, and it keeps my independent bugnet off my face. As Cannibal said, you don't have to have a ridgeline on your hammock, but some people love them (like me).

I use my ENO a ton for sitting in (sideways) and would think the ridgeline would get in the way of this type of use. That's pretty much the main reason I have not put one on at this point. The ridge line would be hitting me in the head if I were using it in the seated position I think?
