or just use a 2 line system and nothing goes over OR under the tarp!

I tie my ends to the tree and have prusiks for adjustment so i really feel there is not much difference from an above the tarp CRL. Under the tarp CRL can provide support for the tarp when there is wet snow for example and it provides a place to hang stuff under the tarp like wet clothes or gear. Whatever works for you.

I like the tarp over the ridge line, just b/c I like it that way. Seriously, it does seem to provide more support in windy conditions. Don't know about hanging stuff from it. Wouldn't that cause sag in your tarp?
Arguing with an engineer is like wrestling a pig in the mud. Your not going to win, and after a while you realize the pig is enjoying it.
If you have prusiks connecting the tarp to the RL, you can simply let off some slack from the tree, slide the prusiks to tighten the tarp and creat a little slack in the line that is under the tarp between the prusiks. The tarp will no longer be supported but if you are waiting out a storm, its nice to have a place to hang wet stuff.
To the OP, some tarp's ridgelines have a slight cat cut upwards and having an above the tarp CRL or in my case the ends tied to the trees, allows for the natural shape of the tarp's ridgeline.

I run my ridgeline over my tarp. My primary tarp is a Superfly and it actually has a tighter pitch along the ridgeline this way.

same here .i run my RL above my tarp . changed to this after a wet night . havent looked back .just the way i like it i guess
I'm a complete noob, having only hung my hammock twice so far. I'm running the ridgeline above the tarp just because I like how the cut of the edge tarp works with it. I can always throw it over the ridgeline if it gets too slack or I want some extra room.
So I just got back from a trip and hung my line above my tarp. It worked super well. I then ran a thin line under the tarp from one D ring to the other, which allowed me to hang a little gear bag. This line wasn't exposed to the elements so it stayed dry even in the rain. I also used a pair of Snakeskins for the first time on the tarp and man did it ever make packign and unpacking fast!
