    Tarp tensioners

I was looking for a pair of these tarp tensioners that JRB makes but can not see paying the $4.75 for shipping through JRB when they can be made for relatively cheap and sent in the envelope for under $1.

I hate to say it but I do not have the time, money, or the patients right now to make these myself. Can someone help me out here?

Have you tried HC4U's shock cord method? I've been using those for a while, and have been very pleased.

These are basically the same thing, made from JustJeff's directions. Very easy, and cheap to make.

I made about a dozen 12" tensioners from JustJeff's directions using green TheraBand, 3mm Spectra cord, and some heavy nylon thread. I've used them on several tarps and tents and they have the advantage of having the Spectra cord inside which, on mine, limits the stretch to about 17" without any loss of strength or worry about breaking if stretched too far. After the first one I was able to knock them out in about 15 minutes each. BTW, thery're in use on the MacCat in my avitar.

I need to explain that my first post was not intended to make JRB look bad about there pricing. I should have worded it better.

What erks me and this is just not done only by JRB. Please forgive me JRB for making my original post make it look intended towards you. Let me post and example and this is not an issue with just JRB. The JRB Micro Carabiners weight 0.2 oz and it cost $4.75 to ship. If you order something off the internet and it weighs less then what a normally stuffed envelope weighs then why can't suppliers stick it in an envelope and charge 42 cents instead of $4.75? I am just using the above item as an example, I could list more from other places.

I hear ya Attroll but here's my take on that.

Shipping charges include more than the carriers fees. The more variations you put into the pot the more complex the shipping room becomes. Envelopes cost something. Labor costs something. I don't want to belabor the obvious. What irks me are the ebay sellers who set a no reserve price and then charge $75.00 to ship a 5 oz item. [/hyperbole] I find the minimum shipping rates of most of the vendors represented here to be reasonable and fair.

We did a custom order sewing business for a while and the shipping was by far the most complex and time consuming part of the business aside from the the actual cutting & sewing.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

"Bless you child, when you set out to thread a needle don't hold the thread still and fetch the needle up to it; hold the needle still and poke the thread at it; that's the way a woman most always does, but a man always does t'other way."

    strapworks

That is one thing I like about ordering straps from strapworks. They have a US mail shipping option which is reasonably priced.

Hey, Troll - didn't I tell you the minimum shipping costs was $100 on those tensioners I sent you?

Seriously, I know what you mean. I just purchased something from Amazon, and the minimum shipping charge was 9.99 for something that could have fit in a large envelope for .78 cents. I figured it was just the cost of doing business, and I was willing to pay it cause it was for my injured dog, and I/she needed it. It burned me, though, that there were no less expensive shipping options.
