Between Suwannee River State Park and Stephen Foster State Park in White Springs. Use maps 13 & 14 (same piece of paper) from the Florida Trails Association office. Depends on how many miles you want to hike a day. Another really pretty area is the Aucilla Sink area on FTA's map 11. It's only about twelve miles between road walks, but the geography is unique. Also, get maps 9 & 10. The Apalachicola National Forest is a nice place to hike.

There are a lot of other areas along the Florida National Senic Trail as well. I've never had a problem hanging except inside the state parks, but you don't have to stay in them. You can just leave a car (if you are starting or stopping in one of them) and hike out of the parks within a mile or two of your car before you're on trail where you can hang without restrictions.

Since you're in Starke I'd either hit Osceola or Ocala. I'm hitting the former this weekend so I can give you an accurate report on current conditions next week. Hitting the trail Fri morning at Olustee and looking to exit at Deep Creek on Sun.

I did Ocala last month through Juniper Springs Wilderness to Hopkins Prairie. There were sections that were horribly choked with storm debris. I believe the FTA was in there the next week cleaning it up. You can read my blog for more info and a link to my gallery. Use the right-hand nav, go to Sept, and click on each day. The gallery is actually under Oct.

yeah in Ocala National there is a nice looking 34 mile segment of the FL Senic Trail that goes by a few springs and such so 10 a day seems pretty good. im getting excited. too bad i can't go for a few more months lol

Although I've only hiked about 1/2 mile of the Florida Trail, and that was in 1995, the Florida Trail through the Bradwell Bay Wilderness south of Tallahassee seems pretty cool.

Well, after talking to my contact at the FTA it sounds like I might have a rough time tomorrow. She said that the Osceola section is in bad shape. They've 4-5 work weekends planned starting tomorrow through Nov to clean it up. I might be doing some bushwacking for them. That won't be any fun.
