    Why do you STILL hammock?

Hammocking is not a fad for me.
    1) I get my cardio in while hiking around to find a good spot to hang and sight see
    2) I am infatuated with my different setups and finding new ways to try and out do the other fellas.
    3) I don't care to spend my money except when it comes to improving my overall kit
    4) I force myself to get some quiet/alone time when I'm out hanging.

I dream about the days when it's cold outside and everything is quiet and peaceful in the morning and I lay in my hammock with my head tucked in my bag. All I see is dark and all I hear is birds and trees passed my own breathing. This is why I STILL hammock.

    I still hammock because:

    1. it's comfortable, and that allows me to continue backpacking because ground sleeping is a no-no for my hips and back
    2. it's inexpensive because I can make my own gear
    3. it's lightweight to pack (yeah, I know grounders can be light too)
    4. hanging anywhere above the ground, day or night, I feel like a secret observer of the natural world
    5. having a flexible shelter, that I can potentially hang anywhere there is at least one tree, adding to my peace of mind while deep in the woods
    6. I get to be a part of this fantastic community

Let's face it - Hammocks are just plain cool!

But seriously though, I still hammock due to the fact that I have knee problems and lower back pain, and when I sleep in my hammock (every night) I wake up (only because i have to) energized and pain free. It's a way of life and I like how it makes me feel.

Plus if I didn't hang, I wouldn't have all you wonderful guys and gals on the forums to talk to.

My forum name is Fish<><; I'm in the navy; and I hate sleeping on the ground. If I didn't need ground to walk on or measure resistance to, I think I could happily give it up.

I love the peace and serenity when I hang and the feel of freedom from all worries. I feel at one with God when I am in the piney woods and hanging in my hammock.

Comfort: It's the most comfortable I've been out in the woods (especially my lower back and hips; I like sleeping on the ground compared to a bed [HERESY!], but an hammock is even more comfortable).

Ease of Site Selection: Pretty much any two trees can be a site to sleep at. Sure, tarpers have almost as many spots...but not as many comfortable ones...

Weatherproofing: Note that this one is pretty much specific to warm climates, though... It's a lot easier to stay dry in an hammock than it is in a t**t. You don't have to worry about water flowing over the edge of your hammock and getting your behind wet (or, if you do, you have much bigger problems than just getting wet).

Tinkering: Sure, this isn't hammock-specific (I could tinker with ground set-ups just as easily), but it's nice to play with different ideas along the way to finding my "perfect" set up (which I'll then change two days later).

I barely camp or hike. I hang every night.

It's more comfortable then the best beds that I've slept in. Which is amazing because I spent quite a large chunk of change on my last bed and spent 12 bucks on my last hammock. About 100th of the cost.
