I expect you'll recuperate with the same attention to function and detail that you bring to sleeping in hammocks, but will remind you to do it right anyway.

What I my research is turning up. My friend has a Total Hip and Knee Replacement she is 73 years old. She lives in Alaska (a transplanted Californian). She still runs her sled dogs, that is moving rapidly in arctic conditions. Pretty cool for a geriatric lady.
I have another friend that is in his 80s he likes the ladies and has his choice of them. He goes dancing. He has had both hips replaced and is working on a second replacement on his right hip.
I know some other people that are physically active with bionic joints. I am considering having my knee done either in Florida or Arizona. It is best to have it done where they do them a lot. Lots of active people, lots of experience. Lots of experience equals more success. If you do six surgeries of the same type a day 5 days a week 4 weeks a month say eleven months out of a year, you are going to do a better job, because of your experience.
I have been thinking about going to Thailand for my replacement, because I do not have Medicare or insurance. I have heard a lot of positive experiences in Thailand and Brazil.
I want someone with lots of experience, who is board certified and up to date on the latest techniques. I am not too worried about using the newest techniques, I just want someone who is up to date on what is happening in the world or bionic joints.
The newest is not always the best. I like something that is going to be a part of me well tested first.
My implanted computer is still experimental. The doctor's do not know what these devices are going to do or the outcome of having them implanted. Mine keeps me alive, that is the only reason I allowed the doctor to implant it.
I hope the best for your outcome. When you are in the surgical suite watching them do the replacements its pretty barbaric looking. Its amazing that they have people up and about in such a short time.
Surgery tomorrow. (don't forget...)
I'll be over with Scotch and cigars and videos. I'll give you until Saturday.
Very Best Wishes Dave!
(thought of having anything else "fixed" while you're under?)

Good luck Dave! Hope to enjoy another cup of your coffee soon. I'll bring the chicory.
He won't be pinching the nurses for a couple of days. Surgery Tues, passed out most of Wednesday but eating, Catheter out on Thursday so visits from physical and occupational therapy. PT Thursday and out on Friday well enough to walk a bit or you will not be going home. Start doing your foot wiggles as soon as you wake up. They will start you on other isometric exercises when you go home. DO THEM!!! Back off the pain pills as fast as you can once you get out of the hospital. While there it's hard to get bored when you are asleep. ;-) Push fruit to counteract the pain pill effects with constipation. Wear your compression stockings, you do not want a blood clot. Don't screw around with healing for the first 6 weeks then you can see how things go.
YOU WILL BE FINE, it just takes a while. Did my first day in the Gym today, should have done it sooner. (2 hips last year.)
YMMV

Free advice worth what you paid for it. ;-)
Dave, Glad you're taking the plunge. Anything I can do to help? We're all pulling for you. Recovery isn't always fun, but make sure you DON'T do what I did... TAKE YOUR PAIN MEDS, then back them down to where you need them to be...
Prayin' it all goes well, as I know it will...
