How many women hangers out there?

I tend to to just lurk as I feel there are not many women hangers. And I'm hesitant to join a group hang as I don't want to be the only female. Am I wrong?

Plenty of women hangers at group hangs that I've attended in Texas & Florida. I enjoy reading trip reports from other group hangs and it's evident that your gender is well represented.

Yes, there are a good number of us, although we seem to be scattered around the country somewhat.

I agree that sometimes, the "ol'-ball-and-chain" or the "she-who-must-be-obeyed" routine among the boys is off-putting and insulting in principle. But, everybody here has been super nice to me personally.

So I wouldn't let that deter you. There are plenty of women who are quite vocal on the Forums. I haven't been to a group hang, but the reports do show a lot of women participate in the hangs as well.

    We're ALL glad you're here!!!!

No offense to HF members, I would be hesitant as well. Check the list of people that are attending a group hang and see if there are any females. Also think of bringing along some of your friends until you are comfortable with the group you are going with. You want to be safe. I am sure there are no records of anything bad happening during a HF group hang but it is always better to be safe than sorry.

Also you can contact the people that supervise Hammock Forums and ask them if they know the people that are hosting the group hang, that way you can be reassured that someone respectable can vouch for them.

I often see group hangs where women are involved though and they always report to have had a great time.

I didn't mean for this post to sound like I was afraid, that never entered my mind. Just awkward maybe. I'm a big girl and can take care of myself . I'm more scared of bears and snakes than people (I probably should rethink that?)
