Glad to hear that you made it OK grannypat.
Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.
Another one that's glad that your and yours were unharmed. Yes, quite a tale for the telling. I'm with you on the idea that the excessive rain is more likely to have caused the fall--saturated ground becomes pretty spongy. And yes again, do not let a good crisis go to waste--time for a new hammock as a reward!
There are some enormous oak trees where I work--large branches have torpedoed through the roof and into classrooms, or have fallen on walkways. Two trees have fallen, and one was removed in the eight years that I have taught here. Each time it happens I think, "What if there had been students on campus?" It saddens me; they are such beautiful trees, but most certainly time bombs.
Glad you walked away victorious... you never can tell what's around that next corner can you?
You're gonna need a bigger hammock
My youngest son and I were just musing last night about what it would be like to be in a hammock when one tree drops away. It was amusing at that point to think about being launched skyward by a human sized slingshot. Now I see your post today, it's kind of kreepy actually. I hope we didn't have some supernatural effect on your hang. That would suck! I think tonight he and I will talk about how interesting it would be to have a nice peaceful and dry hang with no interuptions.

Surely, God could have made a better way to sleep.
Surely, God never did.
Very glad your angels watched over you. The thought of a middle of the night trip to the ground is very sobering. Any chance of a picture(s) of the fallen tree so we can all analyze and learn some more?

Wow! Glad it all turned out OK for you.
I'm so happy to hear you are okay. You had someone watching over you! That had to be scary to wake up to that pop. I know one thing though, that is a sound you will NEVER forget. After our little happening a while back, if I hear a pop like that I start looking at every branch and tree in my area and ready myself to bolt! Seriously, I'm glad you're okay.
