No I wasn't playing then. I'm so old, when I played, it was still called the Big 8.

I resemble that remark.
Sucks with the knee. I played for Navy for a while, but Judo pulled me away. Kind of feeling a bit nervous with all the stuff on concussions, as I had about 12 over the course of my playing career.
I remember those days of FB camp, eating a huge plate of Prego spaghetti to replace what you puked out after the morning conditioning workout...
Heh, that made me giggle a little at the memory.
There are worse sports for binging and purging. When I left football, I discovered crew (rowing). Crew practice, which is amplified by a factor of about a hundred during the off-season, made football camp seem like a game of tag at the neighborhood park by comparison.
Although, instead of messing up any of my joints, rowing got me a nice case of frostbite on my feet. But, I'm honored. My old team has had a regatta every year since that incident...and they call it the "Frostbite Regatta". Given my nickname back then, I'm glad they didn't name it after me directly. Not a family-friendly nickname, but it was fun to hear my teammates' moms come up and say "Hi XXXXX!"
I still deal with the frostbite when hiking/camping and I view it as a challenge. In the long run, it was probably a good thing because I'm just stubborn enough to think I can outsmart physiology. Keeps me going out in the winter with my hammock and trusty partial length underquilt to prove my point.
Trust nobody!
