    Slightly off-topic...inflatable pads

So, I've been checking at a few sites for opinions and experience with inflatable pads. I have used two and both leaked. One was a store brand (rhymes with bander...), and another was an older brand that starts with a W. Both leaked air from the get-go.

What are your experiences with them? I am a little gun shy to go to ground and find a leaking pad.

When I was tenting it I used Thermarest pads. I have two and both are still fine. I used to carry a repair kit in case the pads got punctured.

I have a thermarest for when I go car camping with my son, a scout. I've never had a problem.

My uncle swears by his big agnes pad. Pricey, but 2" of fluffy comfort... if you're into sleeping on the cold, hard ground...

I have thermarests prolite 3 (3/4 length) and a prolite 4 (full length). I like the 4 better cause it inflates taller and I slept a little better with it. Both work.

+3 for Thermarest brand. Still have a functional '80s vintage model. When the NeoAir was introduced I purchased one for hammock use. Of all the pads experimented with (Ridgerest, Z-folding TR, ProLite, original '80's TR) I liked it best for hammock use. But I'm a bias uq user. So the Neo has been reserved for ground use. Limited use (~1/2 dozen times). Still holds air.

I have two Thermarest pads, a very old regular sized original pad and a pretty new, only a couple years old, UL backpacking pad. Both hold air fine, despite my mistreatment.

I'm piling on the Thermarest bandwagon. Mine is somewhere in the 16 years old range and still functions perfectly.

    Although....
....maybe I shouldn't have said anything. I may just have jinxed my 14-year old son, who's using that same Thermarest at Scout camp this week. Hope the troop brought some duct tape just in case.....

My therma rest has been on the at and pct not on full thru hikes but it's spent about 50 nights outdoors and still going strong, and that was all spent on the ground before I found hammocks.

It's one of those things where you have to pay to get what you want. As you've discovered, cheap brands tend to leak, the more expensive thermarest seem to work.
