I am totally new to hammocks. Decided last week I wanted one...surfed the internet and made my first one this past weekend. Ripstop, poly webbing and some 550 cord. Started out with the twisted cord ends, then went with the gathered end style. Made a small bag from the extra material I had. Would like to add a ridge line, will probably start out using 550 cord, then possibly work my way over to a whoopie...

nice hammock and great intro. that hammock blinds me with it's color. not too worried about being stealth i suppose.
the only thing i would like to tell you from experience is that 550 cord stretches pretty bad, and even though it has a 550lb limit you could wind up on the ground due to the forces exerted on hammock suspension. i use 550 for my tarp ridgeline, but i am thinking of an upgrade soon to dynaglide. its almost as cheap if not cheaper than 550 and it has a 1000lb static load limit. i use dynaglide for my whoopies and haven't found the ground yet due to suspension failure.
