Line length for tarp tie outs

Not sure if there is already a thread or two about this, but a search turned up nothing. I just ordered a new tarp that doesn't come with lines, my only previous experience with a tarp is the hennessey hex which as everyone knows already comes with lines. So my question is, what is a good length for all the tie outs? I just need to know how much line to order. Thank you everyone in advance for the help.

Well if you have a tape measure handy and your old hex, just measure the line. If not, I normally try to give myself about 5-10 ft of line on each corner just because I like to be over prepared. I generally only use about 2ft at most on each corner. Hope this helps.

mine are 8' each and seem to work ok, although keep in mind I'm rather new myself and this is the only length I've tried.

Thank you all for the quick replies. I figured somewhere around 8 feet just so I could tie it out to something further away if needed. I'm not going with a ridgeline, just going to tie out to trees like the hennessey. Just what I'm used to.

I tend to set up my tarp rather low (since I'm short and can't reach very high ), so I find I like my tarp lines around 6ft for along the edges. I like my sidewall lines around 10ft though. I can always exchange lines if I'm on a slope or need a longer line on a corner.

Lots of folks are taller than me and when putting up one side of the tarp in porch mode, it's helpful to have longer lines on one side. I see from posts that many like 8ft or even longer lines.

I usually go with 7 foot tie outs. I've never had much of a problem finding things to tie to with that length.

I think mine are 7-8'. However, I realized that 35' isn't enough for my CRL. This weekend I had to use two amsteel chainlinks to make it work and the trees didn't seem that far apart.

Not if that's what you're comfortable with. You can always cut them down to smaller lengths if you want to.

I do mine at 6' on the sides as its enough when using the hiking poles for porch set up and staking the poles to the ground at 45 degree angle, on my doors,,I just use about 3' as its a pain to have lots of excess line that I am never going to use on the ends. I do a line at each end of the RL as about 15' each,,and not a continuous rigde line. Seems to be more than enough as I have fought myself to cut that down alittle even. Do what you think works for you. You can always wack alittle off if you think you have started out with too much. I carry a couple of pieces of extra 6' line just for splicing if I ever need it.

I'm using 6' on one side and 10' on the other. I have tags on the D-ring at each end of the ridgeline to label which side is which before unfurl the tarp.

I find that this setup is versatile in that I can have a high porch on one side or, if I set up on a slope, the longer lines can chase the slope on the downhill side.
