    Tarp ridgeline

I am looking to upgrade my tarp ridgeline currently i just have a crappy set up that came with a cheap tarp I had. I have watched videos and wondering what setup is everyone's favorite. I have seen some without hardware some with. Seen zing it and lash it. What's everyone's opinion on best and easiest ridgeline?

I use the continuous ridgeline from Dutchware...

...or two 12' pieces of Zing It with Dutch Flyz from Jared at Simply Light Designs...

Can't go wrong with either set up.

You got it. One of those, or Reflect-It if you want it to, uh, reflect light at night.

Cordage isn't what makes a ridgeline easy; it's the innumerable methods that people use to secure a ridgeline that makes the difference, and that becomes a highly personal choice. Knot guy? You've got a hundred options. Gadget guy? Throw in Dutchware Gear, Loop Alien, etc., all combined lead to hundreds of possible ways to put up a ridgeline.

I use a Dutch hook on one end of a 35' length of Reflect-It, and a Wasp on the other.

Mine is a Brooklyn clothesline using 1.2mm Tech Line from www.DIYGearSupply.com
I store the line separate from the tarp in a figure-8 hank.

I tie a 1" diameter loop to both ends of the tarp and a Dutch Stinger to one of those. Tie a tiny Dutch hook to the end of 37' of Tech Line. That's all the materials.
Pack the tarp such that both ends are accessible, and next to each other.

To deploy, stand near one tree, hold onto the Dutch hook and throw the figure-8 hank of line toward the other tree. Thread the Dutch hook end of the line through BOTH D-rings at the ends of the tarp, Stinger end first. Go around the tree with the Dutch hook end and attach the Dutch hook to the loop on the end of the tarp.

Now take the free end of the line around the second tree an back to the Dutch Stinger on the other end of the tarp. Pull out the slack in the line causing the tarp to deploy, but not super tight.

Then, standing by one tree, you pull on either line and the tarp will move toward or away from you, depending on which line you pull. The result is a perfectly centered tarp, without making 13 trips back & forth to each end, (been there).

The final configuration should look like this: Dutch hook from the ridgeline, around the tree, through D-rings at both ends of the ridgeline, around the second tree, and back to the Stinger at the tarp. The two trees act like pulleys, so don't tighten the line too much at first. When you have it centered over the hammock, use the Stinger's mechanical advantage to cinch the line tight.

The use of snakeskins greatly helps keeps things organized. Also, I've tried it with leaving the line attached to the tarp when stored, but found too many tangles. The 37' length of line allows enough to span 20' clear distance between two 24" diameter trees, using an 11' tarp.

    P. S. They say 1 picture is worth 1,000 words. Well, I didn't have a picture, so I wrote 1,000 words, LOL.
