    WEST MARINE Three-Bar Adjustment Slides

Was not sure if it would be better to post this here or in DIY... Please move if appropriate.....

I am using some 1500lb Walmart rachet straps for my hammock, and currently tying Bowline knots to prevent slippage. I was wondering if anyone has experience with these slides:

    http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs...classNum=50115

Or something similar as an adjustment point. They look fairly solid, and I Think they would be safe, but will defer to experiences here if somebody has tried something similar. Good thing is I can get them cheap locally.... but they don't have a weight rating. They are however stainless steel, and fairly thick (perhaps as thick as a nickel or two) and feel very solid in the hand.

I would run the strap through the buckle once, then through the attachment rope or caribiner in the end of the hammock, then through the buckle a second time, and finish with a half hitch behind it as a safety knot. Thought folks?

    Thank you!

Dunno, they are stainless but have no thickness or strength specified. OTOH if you thread and tie off chances are they will fold up on you rather than a snap break. I think I would stay with one of the established buckles from one of the cottage vendors. YMMV. ;-)

i use what you mention with the tri-glides.

amsteel loops at the hmmk ends,,
webbing attached to the tree, down to the hmmk, passing once through the tri-glide, through the amsteel loop, then back up through the tri-glide----

sorta reverse of the 'traditional' jrb setup... but works good.

doesn't really answer the west marine's strength, though.

Just as a followup... I did eventually buy and deploy these slides. I use them to suspend a compression pole from my back porch.. the entire setup seems completely rock solid. If it drops me, Ill come back and let ya'll know

In retrospect..... I think Toggles with a marlin spike will be easier... but these certainly can work.
