    Underquilt? Need your opinions.

Ive been looking for an underquilt for sometime, and I know that I'd like a full length quilt, 6'6" long, as I am 6'3". I don't need a 20 or below, as I live in Florida. 30-40 degrees would be fine, at around 250. Anything that matches?

Try this page for JRB quilt comparisons- and I believe they have a sale at the moment.
    http://www.jacksrbetter.com/Quilt%20...on%20Chart.htm
(maybe the Hudson River fits the bill?)

    http://www.hammockgear.com/cart/inde...se1aud17ufam93 more full length UQ

    Down not your thing?
http://arrowheadequipment.webs.com/kickassquilts.htm (see also their flamethrower quilts)

(lots of 3/4 options out there too.)

And I'm sure there are more out there. You'll have to do your own weighting and comparisons.

I am a very happy JRB customer, but I haven't had the opportunity to try any of the others. remember that most JRB top quilts can be strung up as under quilts.

Are you a cold or a warm sleeper? If you sleep warm (ie you throw off the blanket all the time) you might be able to get away with a 40* quilt for your 30-40 desired rating, if you sleep cold you might need to go for a 20* quilt.

OH! remember that you need to look at diagonal length, assuming you're in a gathered end hammock where you lay on the diagonal for flat- unless you prefer to sleep like a banana. I am a short person (5ft 3ish) and diagonally (or not) my JRB nest is plenty big. Sorry I can't chime in with tall person perspective.

+1 on the KAQ's. I want a down UQ, but my first UQ is from Arrowhead Equipment. works great, just isn't as light as down...

Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

Yes Correct the ONLY two that don't match requirement would be the Leigh Lo well cause she is on hiatus and does only sell fractional UQ's (I guess I should of checked her website before going to the vendors forum where all the vendors are listed), and ooppss guess I shouldent of included WB either however wanted to show the OP the full picture and everything that's out their.

And from the TTTG website about the Shamu, is "Rated nominally at 40 deg.+\- ."

    And OP (original poster)

When it comes down to it for tall people, IMHO Id contact stormcrow over at hammock gear and get him to make me (well you) a custom full length UQ with the specific dimension you desire. Currently he is making me a 45 wide by 46 long 40 rated and 20 rated custom Phoenix. He can make the incubator longer as well if you desire however at 6' the incubator fits me easily and with plenty of room to spare on the head and foot end even when laying diagonally.

And generally speaking full length UQ's easily fit a hammock with a 10' RL so at 6' 3" a standard full length should fit you plenty fine even at a diagonal. And its also not only the length but the width as well. How much shoulder coverage would you like?

But again if you want one made longer then I'd contact Hammock Gear for a custom Incubator. They do some might fine work.

Let us know what you come up with and good luck on your search.

I'm the same height as you and just order a custom summer weight quilt from Paul. His prices are really reasonable.

I love my HG Incubators. You could contact Adam and ask him for a custom length 20* Incubator.

The standard JRB Hudson River quilt will fit fine and is 86 inches long...No need for custom and it is in stock and on a great sale for Trail Days...Because it is a multi functional quilt it does not come with suspension but that is separately available and also on sale.
