Check out Dutch's site. Nice set up using whoopie hooks and shorter tree straps. The total weight of my suspension system is now 2 ounces. This includes short (around 24 inch) tree straps and, for me, pretty long whoopies slings at around 6 to 7 feet. The tree strap goes on the part of the tree with all your weight and force, while the whoopie sling finishes the it off. I do use home made Dynaglide whoopies with amsteel continuous loops on the hammock. This helps out when you go from a smaller tree to a larger tree; I have maxed out my tree straps before but did have a tree strap extender to cover it.. I am still deciding on whether I will need a longer tree strap or not and whether I can use shorter whoopie slings.

I do want to give a shout out to BearChaser for showing me his whoopie hook suspension set up.

    My Suspension weighs 2.8oz total

    2- 4ft straps from AHE http://arrowheadequipment.webs.com/a...ts/show/945363
2- 4ft Dynaglide Whoopies (thats 1ft for bury/fixed eye section and 3ft adjustable section) that I made meself
Two Whoopie Hooks from Dutchware http://www.outdoortrailgear.com/featured/whoopie-hooks/

I have 2ft/3ft/4ft/5ft/6ft strap sets and I rotate them with the area I will be going, bigger tree's = longer straps!

I mostly take my 3ft'ers but they got a lot of fray's and are pretty beat up so until I replace them I am using my 4ft'ers. Unless a certain someone sends me some that were once used

    OP:
Yes polyprop also degrades under UV. I watched 1/2" hollow braid Samon polyprop rope break up in use as a permanently installed tree strap (doubled and flattened, so 1 1/2". The fibers that broke were not necessarily abraded either. But, they failed, without being loaded much either, Unless you know that the outer fibers are protecting the inner ones, that type of failure is disturbing.

I suggest buying from someone like Paul at AHE, who has selected the cost-effective fiber --polyester -- and specified the desired characteristics for toughness. Auto seat belt webbing? I've touted it; but it comes apart if the weft thread ends are cut. At which time all the softness and hand-feel and strength are worth even less than they were before. I still like it at 0 cost when weight doesn't matter.

Has anyone tried the dyneema webbing for straps? Does anyone know where it can be bought off the roll?

I have several dyneema loops and dog bones for climbing but have not seen it available by the foot or roll yet. Let us know if you do.it would be very well suited for our use but won't be a great deal lighter than the Dutch supplied straps or Hammeck straps I have.
