    hennessy ridgeline breaking

I have a HH ultralight. When I get in this thing the ridge line is like a banjo string; it is very taught and it makes me nervous.

Has anyone ever had this line break?

I am contemplating replacing it with Amsteel blue just for peace of mind.

    Suggestions would help. thanks

i've set mine up a few times with the ridgeline pretty tight and had no problems......are you getting enough angle on your suspension, if you get close to the 30-35 degree of hang angle that should help with the ridgeline tension, maybe your stringing it a bit tight to start with, just an idea

Lengthen the suspension and then raise the tree straps to set the height above ground. This will relieve tension on the ridgeline.

Lengthen suspension to reduce SRL tension....shorten suspension to increase tension (take up slack) in the SRL.

loosen the hammock up a little bit, that's an indicator it's strung too tight. You should have a little play in it while laying down. The suspension should be coming off you trees at a down ward angle, a lot folks like about 30* for that angle.

Right, just loosen it up a bit. As long as the RL is straight- not sagging- and keeping the net away from your face, then that would be tight enough for me. I just use one arm and pull on the knot cover until it seems moderately tight, and that always seems more than enough for me.

People have broken RLs. But I have the same RL for 6 years now, and it is still going strong so far.

Ridgeline tension is a function of hammock suspension angle and the weight of the hanger. The first being the easier one to adjust. LOL

Like others have written, try to get you suspension to about 30 degerees from horizontal. Plus or minus several degrees from that and you're within spec and you can trust the HH ridgeline to do its job.
