i've been using these slings about 2 years ... is this what your slings look like?
they seem to be holding up fine, no problems, but i was curious what others are experiencing?

Mine hasn't gotten that way yet after 2 months of weekend use, but I can see it happening. I'm by no means an expert, but if you get any more fraying I'd swap 'em out with a fresh set.
Experts, what say you?

We just swapped out an old well used pair on Montalban's WBBB. He was given that hammock in a trade. The hammock is in great shape but those poor old whoopies were looking pretty tired. Nothing lasts forever but I bet these were used 100 times or more! A good reminder to check your suspension every now & then.

That looks worse than it is IMO. Looks like loose threads. I'd be concerned if there were enough loose threads to compromise an individual strand. Still, 2 years is pretty good mileage and no harm in swapping out for another set so your good for two more years.

Don't let life get in the way of living.
I don't see any problem yet but if they make you nervous replace them.

Boothill, thanks for the chuckle. thanks all, good to have outside input.
not really feeling nervous about them, i've bounced around a bit trying to push their limit.
i was just curious if other whoopies show the same "stretchiness?" look??
My pair is about a year old, and while it doesnt look quite as "stretchy" as yours, it's in the making. I'm sure that after another year of use, mine will look just like yours.
I'm not really concerned about the strength, that amsteel is really an amazing fiber, but I do try to avert my eyes and ignore the fact that it looks like the shoelaces supporting my hammock are unraveling.
The loosely woven or gapped strands are not likely stretched. More likely, the adjacent portions of the cord of tightly packed. The gapped strands are more likely to snag than they were when new and closer to the adjacent ones.
So, get a round-ended needle and re-distribute the strands. If you do that, more of the sleeve will be active in constricting the bury.
i would think that, if this continued, i'd replace. but, the strands of rope will distort/move, in response to loading. this looks ugly but, is actually good as it moves to redistribute the load more evenly. i'd be willing to guess that you've noticed the lions share of movement during the first year, and very little in the second year...imeho you have almost achived perfection!!!
