If you want to hang lower, just suspend the ridgepole lower, using a longer cord/chain from the head of the tripod.
Or splay the legs more (make sure you hobble them).

I shortened the front legs to 84"and the rear leg to 82". I shortened the legs mainly for ease of transport and when I set it up in the house it fits a little easier. I understand that a wider base can equal more stability, but a lower center of gravity can too. I guess its a balance between the two. This is the first set I've made. If I don't like it, I'll redo it.

do you have that rope that long for adjustability? meaning you could roll it around the pole more to increase height?

Thinking about building one of these, mostly for indoor use, but might take outside too. My question is how long is the stand when the tripods are setup, and how spread are the tripods?

I'm 5'8" and 125# if that matters. I'm pretty sure my room is 10'x12' (will measure before I do anything), so I was hoping I could have it work at 12' as I don't want to go diagonal. Based on the pictures I've seen, if the top bar is 10' and if I spread the tripods out at around 2' it should fit, since the top bar goes to the middle of the tripods. I'm just not sure if 2' is spread enough.

Turtle Dog vs Pipe stand hang; which gives a better hang. I live in the PNW, wood rots. Thinking of pipe stand but not as portable and wondering which gives better hang...

Cedar vs Fir 2x2's, for legs. Cedar is so much more expensive! What is benefit for cedar or drawbacks to fir?

Woodsie8, I think you are overthinking it. Sure some materials are more durable or lighter weight etc. but once you are in the hammock you won't notice any difference between any of the materials used for a turtledog stand. Go with any kind of wood just make sure it is straight and doesn't have knots in it as that will be a weak point. Pipe will be more durable but not really necessary, IMO. If you are worried about the wood rotting stain, seal, or paint it. It should last plenty long.

I was questioning the pipe stand, different style from the turtle stand. Wondering which stand gave a better hang. I could do a turtle for travel but maybe the pipe stand for year around, in yard. I was wondering if hang itself is better or worse

Again, what you are hanging from won't make much difference in how it feels once you are in the hammock. Other factors will play a much bigger role in your comfort, ie. fabric type, ridgeline length, etc. I don't notice any difference in comfort between hanging from my turtle dog stand and a pair of trees once I'm in the hammock. As long as you can hang your hammock with the same angle/ridgeline you shouldn't notice any difference in what you are hanging it from.
