I found with PVC, when it starts to bend, it continues until you are on the floor. It just doesn't resist bending enough in my experience.

New member here. Thanks for all the great insight on these forums.

I have a question about a turtledog stand I just made for my ridgerunner (using ideas from this thread): Does anyone have any tips for strengthening/stabilizing the tripods? I’m using 2x2s cut to 7 feet. Everything holds so far, but the lumber seems more fragile (and more warped) than I’d hoped, and that feels like the weak point. Thanks for any advice.

I wouldn't know the size but maybe you could slide the 2x2's inside some PVC pipe for extra support.
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.

Thanks, that sounds like a good idea. I noticed knots in a few of my 2x2s, which may be part of the problem.

    Hey Hammocker,

    Welcome.

You may want to upgrade to 2 X 3 inch legs. I got mine at Lowes, very inexpensive. I just wanted the extra peace of mind,
as I am not a small man ( 205 ish).

FWIW, I kept my 2 X 3's at the 8 foot length and my TDS legs are very solid. Take your time. Go through and pick the lumber with no knots. If you cant find enough pieces of good lumber, be patient and wait for the next shipment which is what I had to do. It was worth it.

    Have fun.

    Bob

when you go thru a stack of lumber MAKE SURE to restack it neatly or we wont be welcome doing it in the future

while i'm here i thought i'd suggest making sure to use straight grained wood(both end grain and side grain)

cupped grain will warp and knots will fail

and the earth shall rise and smite thee :-O
