Wondering if someone could weigh in on this concept and how it works as I'm thinking of cutting my crossbar in sections like explained in another forum post?

The end result is four pieces:

    4'
6' 3" (with 3" tapered end for connecting)
    6'
4' 3" (with 3" tapered end for connecting)"

Well, that certainly gives you several options. 8', 10', 12', and 16'. Should cover most needs. I did it slightly differently with 6', 4', 7', and 3'. (I can't recall right now where I left the swaged ends, but do the math, it works out with similar options.)

How does the ridge line poles being pieced together work as far as holding together?

Like in skwatupu's pic. The physics is that the weight of the occupant pulls the ends of the pole toward each other, therefore keeping the joint tight.

    Works.

Next question I've noticed most turtle dog users hang the ridge line from some type of cord is there a reason one wouldn't just put an eyebolt through the pipe and hang it off the hinges, then attach hammock suspension to the same eye hook?

There's no wrong way to do this... unless it doesn't work.

We've tried all sorts of things.

Nice stand. I'm enjoying the look of surprise on your "smiley-faced" tent ;○
