    VIDEO: Catskills - April 2012

Hey everyone. I got a chance to go up to the Catskills recently. I did a couple nights solo before meeting up with AdventureSworn and his girlfriend from over on BushcraftUSA for a couple more nights in a different area.

AdventureSworn took some awesome photos. I'll ask him if he minds me posting a link to the photobucket album. They are much more talented photographers than I am, so I took video instead.

I apologize for the quality. I'll upgrade my camera eventually.

    I hope you enjoy watching!

Well camera issues or not ... I rather enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing the adventure! Pretty country side you have there in the Catskills!

Looks like you're sporting one of those fine "Real Deal" canvas hats ... love mine!

WARNING: Will discuss Rhurbarb Strawberry Pie and Livermush at random.

I love my Real Deal Hat! The quality is great and to top it off, customer service is beyond awesome. When I first got it I made the mistake of writing on the inside of the crown with sharpie. It bled right through. When I posted pictures on BCUSA, Frank, the owner saw them and offered to send me a new hat free of charge!

In the end I decided to keep it, but hats off (pun totally intended) to Frank for running a good business!

The Catskills are the perfect compromise area for Southern NYers. Harriman is beautiful, but highly populated all the time. The ADKs are hours and hours away. But the Cats, they're always there for you! If you don't mind the crazy elevation changes that is.

I see you live in the Linville Gorge. I've been itching to get down there for a trip. I hear the hiking can be absolutely brutal, but definitely worth it.

Nice video. The Catskills are one of the places we are looking at for a 4 day backpack this summer.

Great video. I live around that area in the Catskills and often hike and hammock at those same spots in your video.

Awesome! Do you have any trails in mind? If you're looking for some brutal (and by brutal I mean AWESOME) hiking, you should try Devil's Path. You could thru hike it in 4 days pretty easily. Some folks do it in one day! I don't think many people could pull that off though.

Cool. We should arrange a meet up there some time.

I am going to do some hiking at North Lake tomorrow. Maybe I will even take an early spring swim in the Katterskill Creek as well.

Yes the video quality was poor BUT the music, your singing,
the vistas and the monument/history more than made up for it.
Liked the Warbonnet emblem inside the hammock--never seen one there before.
Your first night campsite looked like it would hang many.
    2cd night's hammock view SWEET.
    Poet's Ledge, very nice.
Now the dead tree water source was birch right? Now that is medicinal water!
AdventureSworn-the one behind the BushcraftUSA knife ?
This was my first exposure to the Catskills-very enjoyable. Thanks so much for
the trip report and def. looking forward to more from you.

    Hi there Zig,

I just wanted to tell you that you can stop hoping, I enjoyed your video and I’m sure plenty of others did too! You did a great job of showing that fantastic place! You owe my five bucks for a new set of speakers though... Your singing broke’em! lol Actually, just send me your super cool hat as a kind of compensation, that’s a good idea. You seem very competent, capable and comfortable while out hiking. I’m guessing you’ve been, or are, in the scouts or something like that. Oh, and get yourself a Pocket Shower, they’re great! And while you’re at it, get yourself a better camera (hopefully quicker than eventually) and make us some more trip reports!

Thanks for the guided tour, Zig!

Thanks for the show, I enjoyed that. I've done a few hikes in the Catskills, beautiful area.
So what was the final verdict, was it ziti or spaghetti??
    Good luck,
