    Breathable bivvy?

Has anyone tried the new SOL Escape Bivvy? It claims to be water- and wind-proof yet breathable. The few reviews I have found online so far are mixed. Anyone have opinions on how well it might work either alone (or with a sleeping bag liner) for warm weather, or combined with a sleeping bag for cooler weather? Do you think it would be enough of a windblock to negate the need for a pad, UQ, etc?

I also read a little about the Blizzard Survival Bivvy. Anyone have experience with that one?

Just looking for ways to shave some ounces off my UL kit.

I have not used this bivy, just getting that out up front. However, I do think it would be a very effective windblock, but insufficient insulation to keep you warm in a hammock. Just my $0.02

I have a goretex military bivy. Little or no insulation value. Leaving it behind shaves pounds, not ounces. Like it for vehicle based camping - put a pad & sleeping bag in it, so it keeps in the heat.
