Just my two cents. if you try it, please post how it turned out.
Ah... that is good advice .... I´ll go with something else then. Thanks hippofeet!

Hi, I'm Dutch, and live in the Czech Republic. Ripstop is mostly used by the USA people on this forum, but for me it is extremely hard to get it for a reasonable price.
So I played around with 100% polyester, and it works perfectly fine.
It is quite cheap here, something like 1.4 eur per meter and available in many shops for fabrics.

    Good luck !

I am gonna take a look at a local fabricstore and see what they have... if nothing comes up, the fabric Mat suggestet is my fallback.

Thanks for the help everyone!! Once again HF comes through with knowledge and inspiration

    Hi TacoStyle

I'm from Denmark too, and I'm lost about what material to use.
There are so many technical terms that don't applies to europe.
I would like to get some camo color, but I can't find anything anywhere in the EU.

Please let me know what you find :-)

    Regards, René

I have had some really good luck lately making some hammocks out of 1.5oz/yd and higher nylon taffeta. It has a really nice "hand" and I am able to run it thru the machine (sewing that is) with ease. I like this material b/c it is not slick like the rip-stop. Can't wait to see what you finally come up with.

I think polyester taffeta feels even nicer. It is not as coarse as nylon. Seems softer.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

    Hi Guys,

I no this is a very old thread but I am looking to make my own hammock, is this fabric - http://www.extremtextil.de/catalog/N...sqm::1518.html

Is the above fabric breathable and strong?

Im a big guy as in heavy, I am also planning on making it double layer so I can use a lightweight mat inside for insulation in the warmer months, just taken delivery of a thermarest neoair small for that purpose.

    Cheers
    Steve
