Can't help ya with the Cuban question but I just had HG make a SevenD quilt and it is so soft and cozy. I can't wait to sleep in it.
How long is your thru hike? I would just stick with M50 instead of cuben because if you hit some warm conditions than the cuben could create a vapor barrier.

Thanks cannibal for the feedback and the help, i went with 8D as inner, and m50 on the outer, save about 40 bucks doin the 8d, and still a sub 10oz, 45+ top quilt. Will post pictures when complete.

I think you also avoided the one thing I could think of with a Cuben top quilt: if you make both sides from Cuben you will have trouble compressing the air out of it. Since you went Momentum on one side, the air's got a way to get out when you're rolling/stuffing the quilt.
