    Kelty Noah 12 Tarp

I use this tarp as a group tarp for the kitchen area if needed in bad weather. Is it just me or the tarp. Every time I set up the tarp there is a huge curve in the middle as shown. The higher the side go up the worst the curve is. Is it because the tarp was manufactured that way or just me that can't pitch it right. We had a beautiful last couple of days and I set up the tarp on friday to practice, it is set up under my hammock for now. I am waiting for my OES tarp to show up.
    Comment would be greatly appreciated.

pretty sure its supposed to be that way to direct the water down the long part of the tarp

The tarp is catenary cut on the ridge and sides. It might have been the first large scale cat cut tarp.

I had a Kelty Noah 12X12 for a few years. We used it on river trips for the kitchen & group area when it rained. Try as we might, we never could get a taut pitch with that tarp. We always ended up with one side that was loose & flapping. I think with the way it's cut, the diamond pitch suits it best, and you will get a little dip in the middle. Just the way the catenary cut is on that tarp. It doesn't look like you have it set up wrong.

I ran a ridgeline through all the tie outs on top and it helped. I then used a prussics on each end to secure it with a small biner.

I use a ridge line under my Noah 12 for both diamond and square hang configurations. There will still be a bit of curve in the middle, limited only by ridge-line tautness, but less than when just using the edge or corner tie-outs. I also think use of a ridgeline puts less stress on the tieouts and tarp.

Not sure if it is just the size, but it does seem to be a challenge to get the guyline angles, stake-out distance, and tension correct/even across the tarp to get rid of any loose areas.

The last time that I used my tarp, I increased the use of tensioners, basically using one on every guyline in use. This really helped with keeping it taut across the entire tarp, at least in winter mode. I think it helps by allowing the guyline tension to be normalized.

I have a Noah 16'. What you did looks about right. You could maybe put your poles a little more upright and a little more tension, but you want to have that U in the middle. The water will run to the middle, then pour off down towards your side tie outs.
