I like the idea of using a hammock for backpacking on the AT. Plenty of trees! And makes stealth camping easier - no need to look for flat, clear tent site.
I recently purchased a Clark hammock. The North American. One of the topics I'm interested in is backpacking in the rain. Any thru-hike of the AT can expect many rainy nights and was wondering what hangers do with their packs while sleeping high and dry in their hammocks. It's not like sleeping in a 2-man tent where you can pull the pack in with you. How do hangers keep their backpacks dry overnight in the rain?
