Has anyone ever tried to remove the waterproofing by using a chemical or boiling water?

    hammock fabric

We now have a new fabric, a durable water repellent 1.6 ounce 40 denier ripstop nylon camouflage at only $1.25 a yard. This is in addition to the 1.1 ounce ripstop that we already offer.
If you send an email to me at [email protected] with your request and mailing address I would be happy to send you a free sample.

The "PVC backing" part of it, combined with the 4 to 5 oz weight, makes me think it's probably something like what the USGI ponchos are made out of. They're a 1.9 oz ripstop with a DWR coating on the camo side and backed with a tan-colored PVC waterproof layer.

If this is the same sort of stuff, yes, it will hold you--and your little tractor too! However, it's heavy and will wind up with you waking up in a pool of sweat if the temperatures are above "cold". Even then, condensation could be a pain.

If you want to remove the waterproof coating, it might be worth trying at the edges of the fabric first. I'm not sure how the two are held together, but my poncho has a rolled hem the whole way 'round. It's possible that it's just the hem holding the layers together...
