Base Pack Weight - Weight of pack and gear carried in the pack, but no consumables
Total Base Weight - Base pack weight plus weight of clothes worn and gear not carried in the pack
Total Pack Weight - Base pack weight plus the weight of consumables (food, water, and fuel)
Total Weight - Weight of everything, or total pack weight plus the weight of clothes worn and gear not carried in the pack, or the weight of everything you take with you whether worn or carried

I hear that... Either way, I could care less about base weight. I care about TOTAL weight. My goal is to be under 35 lbs for 5 days out. That includes EVERYTHING (food too), alotting 8lbs worth of water (about 3.5L)...
Every thing that stays the same, no change over time. Food, fuel, and water change so are not included. Some say only what you carry in your pack. To me its everything. Putting some things in your pocket does not change the fact that you still cary it. Some peolpe do this to reduce there pack weight so they can say they have a lower base weight. To me the learnig curve is not learnig what to take, but what not to take. Its only a number to check yourself agenst others or agenst a set standered you set for yourself.
Total Pack Weight is also called total skin out weight as well
all depends oh who's website you go by
It puts the Underquilt on it's hammock ... It does this whenever it gets cold

The thing that gets me, if I may step on a soap box for a second, is that some people will go through their first aid kit and not count anything because it is meant to be a consumable and they might have to use it. Too much splitting hairs for my liking. I am weight conscious and do weigh my gear but only for a reference, not for a competition. Whew, I feel better now
How about the weight of everything you weren't born with except food, water & fuel.

IMHO, many people are not counting a LOT of things and bragging about their "light-weight" backpacks. I firmly believe that you count everything in your backpack with all of its contents. How can you dismiss the two heaviest items in your pack (food and water) and brag about how light your pack is? I could never understand that.
