I was inspired to try this by a neat little device called a cocoon; it's only a concept but it rather intrigued me. You can see it here: LINK

EDIT: I figured out how to do this using a Japanese method of making a bag out of a square of fabric called Furoshiki!
I've done the bag thing before, but hadn't connected it to the hammock thing. So now I have a method to make a hammock from a single bedsheet-type piece of fabric that can be suspended from one point, which you can lay down fully in!
Basically, get an old sheet to try this out on, go HERE (link to furoshiki instructions) and follow the instructions for 'katakake futuro' (the fourth one in the top row); then hang by the 'handle'. It's good to make the ties on the sides pretty small, so that there's maybe 8 in. - a foot of fabric sticking out.
To get in, get in it like you would a hammock chair, and then scoot around and spread the fabric until you've got a nice hammock. If you make the side ties the same size, your head will for whatever reason be below your feet... it's still comfortable though.. I believe this problem can be fixed by leaving more fabric sticking out on the head-side tie.
Here are some pictures of my brother (about 5'4" or so) in the hammock. (the hammock looks pretty odd from the outside, and it did especially because he was squirming around! But it's quite comfortable. And I believe that a king-sized bedsheet size would hold some pretty tall people. (I'm about 5'2" and I had some extra room gathered under me.)
I used my old sheet with stars on them for this, so that's why the funky sheets xD
