I used to to make lanyards on my Bahco saw, my butane lighter, and everything else that needs a lanyard so I can find it if dropped in the dark/snow.
I may have been writing an early comment while Doody was writing this one.
I had exactly the same "Ahah!" experience last night.

As I've posted elsewhere today, the engineers who came up with this understand how we see differently at night, I suppose after our pupils have opened up. I was wrong in my earlier assessment. Where before I thought it would be OK to not trip on from several feet away, now I am ready --well, after a few inches of ongoing rain stop -- to find out if this stuff is so bright as to rule out stealth hanging a hundred yards from roadside.

I was quite wrong about the minimal reflective threads. Great engineering. If the braided coat holds up, this will be splendid. Very easy to handle. Don't hesitate to buy it for what it claims to be.

This is exactly right. If you are 3 feet from the cordage, and you use a flashlight 2 feet from your eyes (waist level), the angle between the light source and your eyes is huge. But if you are 10 or 20 feet away, that angle is significantly decreased and the retroreflective material will work better. A headlamp will be your best bet to get the most out of retroreflective tracers in the cord.

There are some really good retroreflective materials available, but they rely on honeycombs and grids to reflect more light back at the source. The tracers in this thin cordage is just too small to take advantage of such technology.
