Question Two Questions for my First Hammock

After doing some research it seems to make sense to make my first first hammock, but I'm torn between making a 10' x 60" gathered-end and buying an ENO Doublenest since I've read a lot on this site about how comfortable they are. Do any of you know of a good site to get ripstop closer to the 80" width of the ENO DN?

Another question I have that isn't quite as important to me for my first hammock is if I can convert a single-layer hammock into a double-layer later on if I decide to stick with the same design. I don't see why it would be a problem, but I figure if anybody would know it's you guys.

To be honest its all about comfort, the best thing about DIY is if its not comfy you can loan it out to a friend and make a new one...There are so many designs out there you can find one that fits you the best...I personally started out with a ENO SN, moved to a DIY HH, and ended up with a DIY Claytor all different...If you have an REI around you it would be the best place to buy since they have a 100% return policy...Just some two cents...

You won't find 80 in. ENO will have a panel sewn down each side to Ge the extra width. Personally I think around 60 is plenty and at 10-11 ft lengths more width will just mean more gathers under you.

You will get a flatter lay with more length, depending on your height. I'm 6'2" and I like mine 11ft.

I followed the stickied DIY Hennessey Assemtric instructions listed on this site for my first 3 hammocks. I was a little overwelmed at first having never done it so I got some thin 100% polyester and used cheap paracord for my first one. It worked out perfectly and I spent about 15 bucks. I gave that one to my son as the paracord stretched too much for me(75 pounds versus 190). Ive built 3 since out of amsteel blue and 1.9 ripstop and it was well worth the time. There's nothing like doing it yourself.........

i have the ENO DN and i would say go the DIY route. The doublenest is nice, but you can make something as good for way cheaper. like merganser said, longer is more comfortable. if you make a DIY that is 11' by 5' i think you'll be happy.

Without too much effort you can find nylon that is about 64" wide.
I would start with www.DIYGearSupply.com who is a member of this forum.

I pretty much agree. I'm just under 6', and I have about an 11' gathered (made from 4 yds of nylon). It's a pretty flat lay.

Alright, sounds like it should be pretty comfortable. I went with an 11' x 5' piece of 1.9 ripstop from diygearsupply.com, do any of you know about how long they take to ship?
