    wow, i'd heard about the "ruins", but have never seen pictures of it. your pictures were great slowhike, it looks like a great place. i hate i missed it when they were in bloom! at least from this visit, i'll know where it is in case im ever in the gorge during bloom. thanks again for all the info!

    Great to see a person going to the Gorge! My scout troop camped at the Linville Gorge many times. Our favorite was Wisemans View and we would just unload there. That was before it got "all fancied up". Also buddies and I in our high school and college days loved going into the gorge to camp. We usually did the "Pinch In" trail as it seemed the steepest and most remote to us. It is the steepest. A lung-burner! In 1996 my buddy Kent and I did the whole length of the gorge on the Babel tower side. I remember that it was a challenge .... the trail disappears a lot and it also goes up and down, up and down, up and down. I did not hammock at that time but there would be no shortage of trees down in the gorge.
    Wonderful memories had in the Linville Gorge. A special place to me...
