Question Anyone build a summer weight IX bag?

I was thinking of a 1oz/yd nylon ripstop with a single IX layer 1 oz/yd and a flannel interior lining at 1.75 oz/yd to build a summer bag for a late August Susqeuhannock Trail System (STS) hike. Just need a little something that is small and lite. Anyone try this type of contraption? Any better ideas? This would come in around sub one pound.

i made a 2 layer summer bag out of IX here is what i learned
1- Make the footbox so it can vent Condensation is a problem in the footbox
2- IX works better as a UQ ... but for the temps your looking to use it in it will work great
3- Have fun and take pics when your done

with 1 layer and the flannel should be a 60F TQ ... i kinda like the 2 layers of IX alittle offset to make air gaps but with 1 layer and the flannel it should work nice
It puts the Underquilt on it's hammock ... It does this whenever it gets cold

I made a double layer IX with 1.1 ripstock nylon shell. Flannel has weight.
One thing you may want to consider is to velcro one side of it, so you can add additional material for colder weather. Personally I don't think 1 layer of IX is enough for anything.

Have you considered using a Military Poncho Liner? Light weight, warm, ready to go, no sewing.
I have one from the Viet Nam era, works great alone in mild weather.

I have made a few topquilts with IX - and I second the recommendation of a vented footbox. A single layer won't amount to much warmth, but if you need something for true summer temps, it may work just fine. My summer quilt is 2 layers of IX with a 1.1 shell inside and out, and I have used it down to 40 by itself and had to vent. Of course, I was using a 20deg UQ, so I would probably have had to vent anyway.

They are pretty handy to have around. I made one into a UQ for the boys rig. I'd suggest buying at least 2, if not you'll prob wish you did.

As for IX as TQ... Meh... It really is better as an UQ. However, it is doable as others have mentioned. If you do DIY one consider quilting all 3 layers, like a poncho liner. It's alot of work but it will increase vapor permeability.

You can find them at just about any surplus store. They usually run in the $20 to $40 range, and weigh about 18 oz. I find they're good for most folks down into the low fifties or mid forties.

    Poncho liners

If you want, check out ebay and look at the prices. Got a great one on there this past fall and getting ready to use it.
