Yep Still got 'substandard' equipment - SPE and 15* sleeping bag - but I'm going for it! If nothing else, I'll know that what I've got right now will work in a pinch...It's supposed to get below 30* tonight...lower tomorrow night, but I have class Thursday morning so that won't work. Sigh. Oh well - I'll settle for freezing!

FWIW...Quick report.... ~28 * low, wind chill ~22*.... Wore wool base layer, poly balaclava and bare feet....Used a Nest and No Sniveller along with the Hood and Sleeves ( used as down sleep socks)

Slept 3 hours to bio break... warm and cozy... temp went from 40 to 30 during this time.

After bio break felt a little cool on the bottom...so I inserted my 11x18 sit pad/pack back pad.... slept cool to neutral but slept 2 more hours...second bio break.....

Swapped sit pad for a Down to Earth Pad Converter....Warm and Toasty....went back to sleep another 1.5 hours till BMNT... was warm but had to get up and do some work....

Side note.... even during the mid night coolest portion, feet stayed warm and toasty all night... even after the first 10-20 second of getting back in after the bio breaks bare foot in Waldies....This technique/use of sleeves Rocks.

All in all, this three season set up worked but Ii think I'll use a four season set tonight... 28 - 30 * forecasted again.

pan... you lost me on the Waldies & the use of sleeves commit?
not sure about that BMNT quote either<g>? where's that from?

anyway, i noticed in the weekly e-news letter from BPL.com that they spot-lighted three of your products. i haven't got a chance to read them yet, but looking forward to it. ...tim

    Slowhike, et al,

Crocks are second generation waldies... waldies ar lighter and do not have the strap

JRB Sleeves as sleep socks... pull sleeve over the foot and up the leg...they'll fit... they were designed to do this as well as function as sleeves... wrist elastic is now above the ankle... push top down and over the foot, sleeve is inside out so your stinky foot is against the out side material Instant sleep socks... if you get up just pull them back to the leg position... keep the legs warm while "taking the hike"... return to hammock and reverse in a second... and did I say they Rock for warmth.

BMNT is military operations planner speak.

Yea, they spotlited the Down to Earth Pad Converter, a Nest and the Old Rag Mtn quilt if I recall the recent spotlites... Search the archives for Spotlites on the No Sniveller and Shenabdoah quilts about 12-15 months ago...BTW, some major winter testing of hammocks and JRB gear, full gammit, is going on at BPL... even more good info comming soon over there.

I'm prolly testing out the down hammock v2 tonight. I had it ready to go last night but fell asleep on the couch and didn't feel like going outside. I know, I'm a wuss sometimes.

In the AF, we pay attention to LMBNT - Last Moment Before Nautical Twilight. It's basically when, because of the curvature of the earth, the sun is lighting the sky above your ground position but not actually lighting your position yet.

That means the enemy can see you, especially if you're in a plane.

Other folks call it sunrise, or something thereabouts.

    I'm thinking about it...
We're supposed to get freezing rain and sleet late tonight into tomorrow morning.

Right now I have about 20 packages of Italian sausage to brown, plus other meat for a BIG batch of spaghetti sauce. Who knows when I'll get done....

At least the weather is finally cooling off here in GA !
