I have a design in mind but the electromagnets and generator might need those walk behind packs before is camping ready. Could probably work in that gentle rocking too.

Well, I've theorized about the walk behind pack idea. I invision something like a motorized 6 wheeled wagon that would "follow" a radio signal from a beacon worn by the hiker.
Where the problem lies is in the hardware/software needed. To give this item the "awareness" of it's environment that it needs to navigate over & around obstacles will require alot of technology & energy. (batteries anyone) We'd be looking at an array of cameras, proximity sensors, acceleromators, & motion sensors. Not to mention the actual computing hardware needed.
There have been numerous developments in autonomous unmanned vehichles in the past 10 years. Although, to my knowledge none have seen any actual field use. I imagine it's gonna be 20 or more years before we the technology has advanced to the point of "Automated Pack Mule" for high-class hikers.

I tested something similar back in the 70's (as a kid ). A golf course my grandfather frequented was testing "follow behind" golf carts. You wore a transmitter on your belt and it followed you (about 3-4 feet behind you) with your clubs. Pretty cool. Worked well, but I'm not sure what they were using for batteries, etc.

You want a real goat. And this book by a pro includes all you need to know, including places to find harnesses, etc.
Chapter 5 on wagons, Chapter 6 on trail-packing, including trail etiquette. Don't let the primitivist illustration on the cover fool you. Sue Weaver knows all and tells all.

    I wouldn't recommend it if I hadn't read it.
