Packability of UQ vs DIY: Please Help

    Hey all,

I am trying to upgrade my UQ gear to a 3 or 4 season UQ, as I have a homemade 2/3 UQ from a guy in North Carolina. It is 39oz poly spun with 1.1 ripstop and doesn't pack down too well in my ULA circuit as it packs down (compressed) to 15x9 and takes up alot of space.

Does anyone have pictures of their Warbonnet Yeti, HG PHOENIX, or Te-Wa quilts in there "stuff sacks"with measuresments. I haven't really been able to find any pictures of comparison of UQ's to packablity other than Paul "Water Monkey" who sent me a video of the yeti.

This would greatly help in my decision in 2/3 or 3/4. Below is video of the UQ i currently have.

i think the difference youre asking about is a bit vague.

first, youre comparing apples and oranges. you have a synthetic filled UQ, and youre comparing to a down UQ. now, I had a synthetic from a company in NC and loved it, but it was big when packed!

now, down will compress down exponentially.

and to make sure we're clearn DIY vs Company bought wont make a lot of differences with pack size if both products are comparable in overall size.

check this video about 1:55 for packed size of i believe the 20* phoenix

My thread on my burrow tq has a pick of it packed. The uq will be even smaller. This may give you a reference. HTH

my winter incubator UQ from HG is about the exact size of a two liter bottle, without the nozzle top, packed in it's stuff sack. It's also still has some flex to it to help fill some of the dead air space in the pack.

also one trick to packing quilts, dont stuff em. use a plastic bag at the bottom of your pack and just lay them in there, close the top and pack on top of it. helps it not be a solid tube shape and waste space.

unless you have a framless pack and you're packed tight, turns the bottom into a bowl, WAS NOT comfortable for me. I went back to stuffing them for some rigidity to my pack shape. Work perfectly for me in this capacity
