Walmart had a 5x7 tarp for under 10 bucks. Smaller than what id use but it has its uses for each person. Just thought to throw it out there for people short on change. Its really small and comes with a sack. Enjoy.

i have one. Weighs 8.5 oz, 12 ft ridgeline diagonally. Only problem, has grommets not tie outs. Easily solved.
Blue tarps can work great. You can always get a larger one and cut it to size, hem the edge and add tie outs. Hmmm. Has anyone ever taken a tarp and cut out a hex shape with cat cuts? You might try it. Might be the next great thing.

Well to get me started I got a blue ripstop nylon tarp for 12 bucks. Should at least get me through for awhile.
Even though the 5x7 nylon tarps have metal grommets they seem to be pretty good quality. I have one and was thinking about getting another to use as doors on my hex for a winter car camping set up. I think I can rig them with grip clips and be fine.

That's no bargain! Menards routinely has them for around $2 to $2.50
The $2-5 are so called "Blue" tarps, which are polyethylene. The ones mentioned here are PU coated nylon tarps - a totally different kettle of fish.
@deerfu - grommetts are an abomination - they fail much more readily than decent tie outs.. Sieera Designs "tarp clips" are a good option also IMO
