Another option is to not have a continuous ridgeline. I used to use a continuous ridgleline and used both over and under the tarp. Since last summer I have been using 12 feet of cordage from each end attached to the trees. I have continuous loops on each tie out and they are secured to the line with prusiks so centering the tarp is just as easy as it was with a continuous ridgeline.

2 separate lines like bubba in the 3season hanging...

Under the tarp in the winter, for perceived strength in snow support.

Ridgeline over the tarp for me. I wanted a line to hang things inside, so I ran a line between the tie-outs that hangs under the tarp, with a little slack. It just stays there all the time. Of course, nothing wet gets hung there, near the hammock or bedding, so you can hang wet river stuff from the ridgeline on the outside of the tarp.
We are now ready to start our way down the Great Unknown. We are three quarters of a mile in the depth of the earth. We have an unknown distance yet to run, an unknow river yet to explore. What falls there are, we know not; what rocks beset the channel, we know not; what walls rise over the river, we know not. Ah, well! We may conjecture many things. The men talk as cheerfully as ever; jests are bandied about freely this morning; but to me the cheer is somber and the jests are ghastly. Powell 1869

Tarp under ridgeline for me - just always worried about excessive wear on tarp from ridgeline rubbing against it. I might try it the other way just for kicks and giggles.

The tarp I currently have is really made to have the ridge line above it. That being said, I liked my time with a tarp and ridge line under it better, because it was added places for me to hang things but keep them dry. Adding drip lines can be very beneficial.

The "over the line" approach takes the constant stress off the ridgeline tabs. Tarps are built to withstand that stress of course, but I've seen some pulling and stretching of the tab seams, and this is an easy way to give those tabs some relief.
    i wholly concur.
