I've had really good luck with Goodwill. I've bought five so far, three singers and two white rotary. My first was a singer dated 1947. Table and all cost me $75.00 and I made many a DIY project until I picked up my first white rotary. I only use my white now and I love it! I was told to pick up a spare white for parts if I see one so I picked up a second white at Goodwill for, are you ready.....$8.00. After I cleaned it, it works awesome! I've found that the older machines work better than the new plastic units. Just my take on things. Good luck and enjoy

i actually got my sewing machine (singer 533) for free at a goodwill type store, hard to beat the price and there wasn't a thing wrong with it, just plugged it in and started making gear

I've been instructed that my next purchase should be a single stitch industrial sewing machine (used ones are fine) Reason being is that they are made for heavy usage. I'll be looking into it as soon as my 35 year old Sears kenmore sewing machine ever gives me any issues.

I got rid of my Walmart special and bought a 1961 Singer and a 1936 Singer (I converted to hand crank) off ebay. The first was $80 but I ended up getting it free since it was damaged in shipping and wasn't working right. It just needed a new belt. The second was about $40 and the electrics were shot and cordless so I ditched it and now it's hand-powered (very convenient to use when watching tv). I use the younger one for big projects and long stitch runs. I use the older one more for short projects. Both sew leather like a dream as well as ripstop nylon, canvas and fleece.
I was told there'd be no math on this exam. ~T.D.
