    Polyester

Just wondering why I do not see any polyester fabric hammock tarps.FEuding thke old tent camping days it seems, I would go out of the way to get a tent with a polyester fly just so I could "set it and forget it" should it rain. I have used the Noah's tarps for a while (polyester) and during rain, they do not seem to ever sag like my nylon tent fly would. I know the weight is slightly heavier, and the UV resistance is about as good as it gets, but is there a good solid reason besides the slight weight difference that anyone knows of?

I don't know why nylon is preferred. I believe Eno hammocks are made from polysester.

    Polyester tarps

Good to know, Gra Factor, thanks for the reply and I did not mind carrying three or four extra ounces of weight for the added benefit and piece of mind, however I can't find any polyester tarps just designed for hammocks. I am considering a spin Tex tarp, and am not sure if that will sag like the sil nylon? Trying to get an answer from OES before I make up my mind on purchase, this week hopefully.

Spinn won't be available from most vendors. There were quality control problems with the maker of the fabric, and availability dropped to nothing. You might also want to consider that OES is closing up for now.

    Polyester

Thanks for news on spin materials Angry Sparrow, I had no knowledge it was in such a decline. I am trying to reach OES to place the order, hope they have at least one Ultra left for me!

I'm sure Brian will accommodate you.

FWIW, you won't get much sag from a SilNylon Ultra if you pitch it sufficiently tight. There are literally thousands of Sil tarps owned by the members here, and have been used in every conceivable condition just fine.

My 1st DIY hammock was poly, my 2nd nylon, the 3rd will be poly, just a matter of comfort. As to tarps my current DIY tarp is made from a WM 'unknown source unknown fabric' super lightweight DIY sil and so far no complaints. I could see experimenting with a DIY sil polyester in a 'suit lining' material. I tried suit lining poly for a hammock and it seemed too light at 8 oz for an 11' hammock. Or maybe I was too heavy?
