Weight of All-in-One Whoopies vs Strap and CC Buckle

I'm ordering a new hammock and I'm considering having an All-in One Whoopie system which will cost me about $49.00. I already have straps and CC Buckles which I know I like and find simple to use. The only reason I'd switch is for weight savings but I don't know how much if any weight I'd be saving.

Can anyone help. I'd be getting 6' tree straps with the whoopies, and my current strap and cc buckle system is 12' in length. I can't imagine I'd be gaining much weight advantage.

    Anyone care to comment?

    Thanks, Miguel

Miguel, while I don't know the weight of your current components, I can tell you the weight of an All In One system with 6' whoopie slings and 6' tree huggers is at 5.8 ounces for the pair. Hope that helps.

I think you save about 1 oz, but a decent amount of bulk savings in your pack. probably in the range of 20 cubic in. You didn't mention how you attach the straps to the trees right now, which will of course make a difference if you are using carabiners or dutch clips. Much bulk savings if you use carabiners currently, not as much if you have the clips.

If you are inching toward ultralight, this would be a good transition. I found I saved about 1.2 oz on each end. I made my whoopies from 7/64 and 5' long. I exchanged my longer 12' straps for 6' lengths and took away the buckles and use dutch buckles. My 5' whoopies (10' actual rope) weigh only 15 grams. 5' of tree straps are about 1.06 oz. My scale will round up to the nearest 5 gram and 0.2 oz. This is not an all in one system, but will, hopefully, give you some ideas.

Thanks...that's exactly what I need to know.

I am using the Dutch Clips which I love and the point about less bulk is well taken.

    Thanks to all, Miguel
