    sewing questions

i have a couple sewing questions
with ripstop nylon do i need to use a special or thinner needle?

do i need to use special thread?

if so what type of needle and what type of thread?

    Thanks in advance.

Nothing special for RS nylon. The size of needle is mostly user preference, so anything in the 9 to 14 range is fine, although with the bigger sizes, the fabric has a tendency to pucker a bit more. I use a 10 or 12 for just about everything.
I think the only specific thing about thread would to make sure it's 100% polyester. Beyond that, most of us use Gutterman brand, but any quality brand is fine.

    Happy sewing!

It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

Gutterman 100% polyester thread (also labeled as "Sew-All") is available locally at JoAnns and online from http://arrowheadequipment.webs.com/ and from http://www.diygearsupply.com/cgi-bin/isle.cgi?type=all both members here on HF. Plus, they have all sorts of other material that you will need for your projects.

I use #12 "sharp" needles, usually Schmetz brand from JoAnns. Yes, all needles feel sharp but there are 3 categories - sharp, universal (regular), and ball. I believe "sharp" is best for thin nylons. The "ball" needles are for knits and the universals are in between.

I would be remiss if I didn't direct you to Ramblinrev's fine tutorials on sewing for the likes of us DIY'ers.
Check the 3 links in under Ramblinrev's post in this link... http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=30152
