Friday and Sat, nites, I hung in my front yard as its the only yard I have in the middle of my 40 acre wooded 920' elevation hill on a saddle before you get to the top. From my driveway its 3.5 miles thru this section of woods, hills ravines, and 2 miles from the house is a 700 acre wetlands surrounding a hill of woods, Pretty remote. Before I could hang,,had to put a cintrenla candle under the tarp to run the mosquitos out its getting so bad. I'm about 40 miles SW of where your going to hang, Sunday, the knats, black flys, and midge flys hit us mid day,,so they are now showing up, The mosquito dope no matter what you use,,don't cut them,,the only thing we have found around here that works is artifical vanilla and I dump a bottle of it in a small pump bottle and spray it on after I use mosquito dope. You smell like a bean,,but it works for about 1.5 hrs,,they won't land on you, but will still buz the heck out of you. Its been a hot spring so expect and be prepared for the buggers as not much of any of the bug world was killed or endured a sevear cold winter as we didn't have much of anything. You guys are camping at the headwaters of Monroe,,so all I can say is be prepared for the mosquitos and knats. Have a good weekend. I slipped a disc in my back which happens to me ever year or so,,and this time its been bad, so I am down for the count for a couple more weeks and our trip to GSMNP is off for a bit. Enjoy yourselves and have a great hang.

Hmmm.... My hammock still doesn't have a real bug net. Guess I might have to make a quick tuline contraption.
I like big hammocks - I cannot like.

They have been up now off and on for over 2-3 weeks,,not sure what you will find as weather has had them fubar'ed quite a bit. Black ones are pretty much gone, Yellows have been being found here and there, around elm, ash, sycamore..whites around poplar as well as what I call the little yellow poplar. In certain areas, too dry and too hot so they didn't come up,,depending on rainfall has alot to do with your finding any. Around me they are about done even tho they came up early. As we get this a few of these cold fronts, not sure what they will do as its been so quirkie this year..good luck on those. I really think your going to need it but you never know about the shrooms.

This is what I had planned as well. I have the coordinates loaded in my gps. So we shouldn't get lost. Lookin forward to meeting you Wildcrafter. I can't wait to see everybody and have 5 days in the woods! Should be a great time!

Acer, thanks for the bug warning. I was planning on not having many around this time of year, so I think I'll make a quick hammock change from my netless DIY (12 feet long and luxurious) to my WBBB. Are you sure your bug overpopulation isn't due in large part to the wetlands around your place? Browning Hill has a few ponds, but otherwise is pretty dry and usually has some wind...

Had some car problems crop up this weekend, so depending on the severity I may or may not be there. It started with SOMETHING chewing through an ignition wire....

Doctari--NOOOO!!! Man, I wish you were coming. Let me know if plans change.
