I have been an EMT/Dispatcher for ten years. I worked off and on in Nashville for a couple of private services before coming back to Chattanooga. Now I'm a dispatcher for my county 911 service. My first partner introduced me to the term squirrel. He was what you would call "The Squirrel Grand Master". A squirrel in Nashville EMS slang is someone who is overly gung ho in the Fire/EMS/Police field and talks about it constantly. He had so much gear I.e. bunker gear, expensive stehoscopes, multiple radios, etc. his car was a gold Chevy impala (looked like unmarked cop car) with about 3 radio antennas and a laptop mount on the dash. I had mistakenly told my friends the definition of a squirrel. Apparently when I'm with them all I talk about is work. So they would call me squirrel. Also I have the attention span of ...ooh shiny what's that.... You get the idea. SQWERL because before autocorrect I would miss spell it and also to be a little different.
